Fine Linen

I recently had the opportunity to create a baptismal gown for some dear friends of mine. Their first child is five months old, and her baptism was a wonderful celebration with both sets of grandparents and several friends present.

The gown was custom-designed with input from both parents. The mother has been a close friend of mine since college; and one of the things I liked about her husband when they first started dating was his aesthetic sense, which was so nicely compatible with hers.

They wanted something beautiful, but not so girly that they couldn't use it again if they have a son in the future. I realized it with pleats, an understated crocheted trim (the same trim I had used for the mother's dress back when she was carrying the baby!), and simple, clean lines in a lovely handkerchief-weight ivory linen. The appliqued dove and laced front bodice were also their idea.

I am so pleased and excited to be a part of this precious little one's life!

All photos in this post courtesy of my friends who now own the dress. Rocking amateur skills, there!
